Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name given to Winona Laura Hoowitz, who was born within Winona Minnesota. Her parents named their daughter in honor of her hometown. Michel Horowitz' father was editor and author along with Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder's parents also happen to be Jewish. Ryder believes herself to be Jewish. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder was born in the United States and moved together with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. In those days, there were no electric lights. Ryder was an avid bookworm and would spend her days reading books because there was no television. Ryder began taking acting classes when Ryder was 12years old at the American Conservatory Theatre. In 1986 she landed her first big-screen role in the film Lucas at just fifteen years old. Ryder was bullied throughout her time in high school. Her professional acting, she believed, would help her. However, it didn't come pass. But she continued to chase her goals. Beetlejuice which was a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first major breakthrough. Ryder played successful roles for numerous films. In 1993, he was nominated twice for Academy Awards.
